Frustrated by your dog pulling on the lead?

One of the best things about having a dog is going for lovely long walks and spending quality time with them. However, walking can become a dreaded chore if your dog pulls on the lead.

  • Do you ever feel like your dog has no idea you are at the other end of the lead?
  • Are you embarrassed by your dog's behaviour on walks, frustrated by the pulling, tired of the struggle?
  • Do you dread taking your dog for a walk because of the discomfort it causes you and your dog?
  • Do you wonder if you'll ever be able to stop your dog from pulling?

I know how it feels to have a dog that pulls on the lead!

When I got my dog Remi, I realised how lucky I had been with all my other dogs, who naturally walked on a loose lead. Remi, however, PULLED A LOT, and as soon as she was on the lead, it was like she didn't even know I existed and definitely didn't know I was holding the other end of the lead.

I tried everything, positive reinforcement training techniques, treats, clickers, and other trainers online courses, but Remi remained a furry steamroller on four legs!

Does this sound familiar to you?

The good news is that after some creative problem-solving and Tellington TTouch leading techniques, Remi is now a delight to walk on the lead.

Firstly, she knows I'm on the other end of the lead - that's a massive win right. Remi regularly looks back and checks in with me. She is no longer leaning forward into her harness and the lead is relaxed. Plus she's no longer pulling my arm out of its socket, and our walks are much more fun.

Now that we've worked on focus and connection, the outside world isn't just a source of excitement for Remi; I'm also a part of that enrichment.

Why use Tellington TTouch?

Tellington TTouch is a specialised approach to the care and training of our animals. It can be used as a stand alone therapy or integrated into your positive reinforcement training plan.

Leading Techniques are a key component in the Tellington TTouch Method, and we use the TTouch Playground (also known as the Confidence Course) to practice new skills and re-educate ourselves and our dogs about walking on the lead.

At first glance, the TTouch Playground may look like an obstacle or agility course, but we navigate the obstacles at a slow speed to develop the dogs' focus and concentration, improving their confidence and the connection you have together. Having fun is essential as this aids the dogs' ability to learn and improves their body awareness.

Benefits of TTouch Ground Work

The TTouch Playground can be described as an 'awareness course' for both the dogs and humans involved. Mindful, slow and steady groundwork is an essential element of the TTouch method.

  • Promotes fun for both of you, which enhances learning.
  • Encourages focus for all parties.
  • Slows the process down, requiring the nervous system to pay more attention.
  • Requires non-habitual movement and enhances communication between you and your dog.
  • Increases coordination and balance (mental, emotional & physical).
  • Helps dogs become successful, which improves confidence.
