Walking in Balance is an 8-week TTouch-based course designed to help sensitive, anxious or overwhelmed dogs feel safer on the lead — so that you can finally enjoy your walks together.
Starts Wednesday the 6th of May 2026, 7pm (BST)

Walking should feel relaxing and enjoyable… but for many sensitive dogs (and their guardians), it feels anything but.
Do you recognise your dog here?
They surge ahead, scanning everything. You feel like you’re being dragged from one thing to the next.
They suddenly stop. Refuse to move. Seem “stubborn” — but you can sense something deeper is going on.
It feels like you don’t exist at the other end of the lead. No check-ins. No awareness. Just tension, and you've tried everything.
You’ve tried different equipment.
You’ve tried treats.
You’ve tried positive reinforcement.
Maybe you’ve even been told to “just be more consistent.”
But deep down, you know something else is going on. They may be sensitive. Overwhelmed. Trying their best in a world that feels like a lot.
There is another way to approach walking — one that supports both ends of the lead.
And for many sensitive dogs, TTouch becomes the missing piece of the puzzle. 🧩
Most loose-lead training focuses on the external behaviour.
Walking in Balance, using Tellington TTouch®, focuses on regulation, awareness and connection.
When the body feels safer, behaviour changes.
Through Tellington TTouch® leading techniques and groundwork, you’ll learn how to create calmer, lighter and more connected walks for both of you.

I created this course because I know what it feels like to stand at the end of a lead and wonder what you’re doing wrong.
When I got Remi, she tested everything I thought I knew about training.
She froze. She pulled. She disconnected. And my normal positive reinforcement approaches weren’t getting to the root of it.
It wasn’t a training issue. It was a balance and connection issue.
By consistently and compassionately applying Tellington TTouch® leading techniques and groundwork, everything began to shift. Not overnight. Not through force. But through understanding.

As part of Walking in Balance, you’ll also receive the Enrichment Playground Mini Course completely free.
This bonus course helps your dog develop body awareness, confidence and coordination — beautifully complementing the lead work we cover inside Walking in Balance.
Because balance doesn’t just happen on the lead — it begins in the body.

What stood out most to me was the angle you take in helping both ends of the lead. The way you teach balance between dog and guardian feels refreshing and practical and it brings a lot more awareness to how we show up in the walk. There is far more valuable insight in here than people might expect before joining, and the perspective you offer is unique and truly helpful. What keeps me coming back to your courses is the way you teach. I always feel supported, seen and understood with you. Your calmness, your empathy and your sense of humour create a space where learning feels safe and grounded.

"After 2 years of trying every piece of equipment possible to stop the pulling I certainly believe the TTouch approach is the best, you have no idea how thankful I am that I attended your course.
We are putting some of the techniques into practice and I can already see a difference".

The content was so much more than what I expected.
Throughout the course I was exposed to techniques and tools/resources that I either was totally unfamiliar with, hadn't understood how to use correctly or never thought to use in the way Katharine suggested.

During the 8 week Walking in Balance Course, we will look at how the Enrichment Playground (also known as Free Work) can help with loose lead walking and help your dog to get moving if they've become overwhelmed.
Have Katharine as a Coach in Your Pocket during the course. You can WhatsApp message or email any questions or concerns throughout the course
Download the Free App to view all your course content on your mobile phone or tablet. Perfect if you are relaxing with your dog and want a quick reminder of the techniques.

The course begins on Wednesday the 6th of May 2026, with live Zoom sessions taking place on Wednesdays at 7pm (UK time) for 8 weeks. Each group Zoom session is focused on teaching, so we can cover the key content thoroughly and make sure you understand each element of the Tellington TTouch Leading Techniques. There will be time for Q&A, and if you can’t attend live, you’re welcome to send your questions throughout the course. The live sessions make up half of the course. The other half is your online course, which includes step-by-step demonstrations, instructional videos, and resources, which you have permanent access to. You can work through the online course at your own pace.
Yes. Walking in Balance is particularly helpful for dogs who become reactive, overwhelmed or hyper-alert on walks. Rather than focusing purely on stopping the reaction, we work on supporting balance, posture and nervous system regulation first. When a dog feels steadier in their body, their responses on walks often begin to soften. If your dog has severe behavioural concerns, this course can still complement individual behaviour support.
Because it works with the nervous system, rather than focusing only on behaviour, it often succeeds where other methods feel incomplete. Many guardians say it was the missing piece that finally helped their dog relax and thrive.
Freezing is often a sign of overwhelm, not stubbornness. Inside Walking in Balance, you’ll learn how to recognise early signs of tension and how to gently support your dog through those moments using TTouch leading techniques and bodywork. We focus on building confidence and balance — not forcing movement.
In Tellington TTouch®, we recommend using a well-fitted harness with attachment points at both the chest and the back. This allows us to use either a double-ended lead or a TTouch connector, giving two points of contact for clearer communication and improved balance.
This isn’t about control — it’s about helping your dog feel more supported and physically organised while walking. We may also introduce TTouch body wraps to enhance body awareness and confidence. I’ll guide you on how and where to purchase these if you choose to use them.
All groundwork exercises use simple items you likely already have at home or can find while out on a walk — there’s no need for specialist equipment. The focus is always on comfort and support — improving balance, focus, connection and communication so walking together feels easier.
Absolutely. All Zoom sessions are recorded and you’ll have lifetime access to the replays. You can watch in your own time and submit questions in advance if you can’t attend live.
In TTouch we say “moments rather than minutes.” Many of the techniques can be woven naturally into your existing walks. You won’t need hours of extra training — small, consistent shifts create meaningful change over time.
No experience is needed.
Everything is taught step by step, with demonstrations and clear explanations, so you can begin confidently — even if this is your first introduction to Tellington TTouch®. Plus, you’ll have access to the client-only Facebook group for ongoing encouragement.
That’s completely okay. While this course includes TTouch elements, we also work with leading techniques and groundwork. Everything is done at your dog’s pace, with choice and consent at the centre.
Yes, definitely. TTouch perfectly complements positive, reward-based training. It helps your dog feel calmer, more balanced, and ready to learn, which makes other training approaches even more effective.
All payments are taken in British Pounds (GBP). If you’re outside the UK, your bank will automatically convert the amount into your local currency at the current exchange rate. This is usually a straightforward process, and you can get an estimate of the cost in your currency with a quick online search.
Tellington TTouch is a specialised approach to the care and training of our animals. It can be used as a stand alone therapy or integrated into your positive reinforcement training plan.
Leading Techniques are a key component in the Tellington TTouch Method, and we use the TTouch Playground (also known as the Confidence Course) to practice new skills and re-educate ourselves and our dogs about walking on the lead.
At first glance, the TTouch Playground may look like an obstacle or agility course, but we navigate the obstacles at a slow speed to develop the dogs' focus and concentration, improving their confidence and the connection you have together. Having fun is essential as this aids the dogs' ability to learn and improves their body awareness.
The TTouch Playground can be described as an 'awareness course' for both the dogs and humans involved, and is easy to create a 'Playground' in your garden. Mindful, slow and steady groundwork is an essential element of the TTouch method.
